About the Artists
Prince Adrean & Company
Prince Adrean’s dance journey began at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, where he was introduced to praise and liturgical dance. At age 8, he began African dance training and joined the Ton Ko-Thi Children’s Performing Ensemble and Ko-Thi Dance Company, studying under master teachers such as Youssouf Koumbassa and Mbemba Bangoura. In 2014, Adrean expanded his training to include Western concert dance styles such as Ballet, Modern/Contemporary and Jazz through the TBEY Arts Center, where he has remained an active member ever since. He later joined Dynamic Dance under the direction of Tisiphani Mayfield where he continued to hone his technique. He went on to graduate as double major in vocal and dance at Milwaukee High School of the Arts learning from Raymond Roberts ( vocals) Dean Drews (dance) Sandra Jordan (dance) Roxanne Kess (dance). Adrean is currently completing his Bachelor of Arts in Dance at Columbia College Chicago and has served as a Company Artist with Muntu Dance Theater. His studies have taken him across the U.S., where he has gained extensive knowledge of dance styles from Guinea, Senegal, and Mali. His work blends themes from the African Diaspora with Western concert styles. Adrean attributes his growth and artistry to the mentorship and guidance of influential teachers and choreographers, including Ferne Caulker Bronson, Tisipani Mayfield, Desmond Cotton, Chancie Cole, Regina Perry-Carr, Idy Ciss, and Imania Detry, among others. In addition to his work as a performer and student, Adrean has choreographed and taught for various organizations, including TBEY Arts Center, Signature Dance Company, Lincoln Center of the Arts, Danceworks, Winifred Haun’s First Draft: Chicago Dance Makers, and Winifred Haun’s 3rd Coast Dance Program.
